O GLORIOUS ST. SCHOLASTICA, O DOVE WHO FLEW TO HEAVEN ON WINGS OF LOVE
Scholastica was according to the Dialogues of St. Gregory the Great the sister of St. Benedict, who was from her youth dedicated to God.
She liked to come once per year to meet her brother for spiritual exchange.
When they met the last time in this earthly life, she requested to continue the spiritual conversation until the next morning, what Benedict refused.
Yet, when St. Scholastica prayed to God with tears, suddenly a thunderstorm with rain started, so strong that Benedict and his accompanying brothers were unable to leave.
Three days later Benedict saw from his cell the soul of St. Scholastica leaving in the form of a dove.
We venerate St. Scholastica, who lived purity and simplicity of heart, symbolised by the dove,
who was capable of more because she loved more.
We like to have her picture in our convents as a role model and an intercessor.
