Eleven Sisters of the Casa community were able to attend the Holy Mass of Pope Francis on the Day of Consecrated Life in the Basilica of San Pietro, whereas the rest participated through the television.
The celebration started in the dark church with each one holding the burning candle and the entrance procession.
The darkness makes us more aware of our need for light and the impact, even a small candle can have.
In his homily Pope Francis challenged us with three questions inspired by the gospel of the day:
Simeon was moved by the Spirit. What moves us?
Simeon saw the promised Messiah in the little baby, saw beyond mere appearance. What do we see?
Simeon held Jesus in his arms. What do we hold in our arms? What do we cling on?
The celebration ended with the sung Alma Mater, asking our mother, the Mother of the Church to intercede for us.
Being physically present and celebrating Holy Mass with Pope Francis will be an unforgettable experience, which we will treasure our whole life.
May this event help us to be moved by the Holy Spirit, see God’s work behind the mere appearance of things and cling on Jesus Christ and thus become witnesses of joy and love!
