On Holy Saturday we once more start the day with the office of readings,
listening to the book of lamentations,
yet our singing and praying is pregnant with hope…
The celebration of the resurrection starts in the night,
when it is dark and cold.
We gather around the fire, as we are in need of light and warmth.
Yet, our true light and warmth does not come from the fire.
Christ is our light – Thanks be to God!
Lumen Christi – Deo gratias!
Like the pillar of light went in front of the Israelites guiding them through the Red Sea,
so we are following the Easter candle on the way to the chapel,
so we are following Christ, our light, on the journey of our life.
In the chapel, which is still dark, we listen to the Exsultet, the praise of this glorious night.
The readings guide us from the creation of the world through the exodus of the people of Israel
to the redemption through suffering, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
The gospel tells us, how the disciples discovered the empty tomb,
how mourning changed to joy,
how they encountered the risen Lord.
Alleluia,
is the song of Easter,
utterance of our joy,
which cannot be expressed by words alone.
