With Pentecost, that is 50 days after Easter,
the Easter season ends and we return to ordinary time.
Yet, Jesus does not leave us alone.
Rather, he is present in a different, more universal way than during his earthly ministry.
The outpouring of the Spirit happened that time after Christ’s ascension,
when they were all together in one place.
Though from different parts of the world,
they could all understand the words in their own language.
Of this we sung during the Pentecost vigil.
And it happens today, when we gather as community.
He fills our hearts with His Spirit, who enables us to understand each other,
who accompanies us, wherever we are, whatever we do.
The gifts of the Holy Spirit are
wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowlege, piety and fear of God.
Come, Holy Spirit,
fill the hearts of your faithful
and kindle in them the fire of your love.
