The community of Bernried
In July 2024, the community of Bernried / Germany will look back in gratitude to
75 years Missionary Benedictine presence in Bernried.
On July 4, 1949, the first four sisters arrived in Bernried with a little lorry and 20 DM to start with.
Already in September a first course was offered to young women in domestic science and gardening. From these beginnings a domestic school with boarding developed, which trained until its closure in 1972 2000 students.
After the closing of the school, sisters saw the need for ongoing formation of Christian lay.
The seminar house St. Martin was opened.
Ecumenical prayer in the garden
To offer Benedictine hospitality and participate actively in new evangelization
was seen as the main tasks of this apostolate.

Hiking with the Bible
Though the house is now managed and owned by the village community of Bernried,
10 sisters continue to be present with their ORA et LABORA,
maintinaing the Benedictine spirit of the house.
Thanking God for fulfilled hope and granted future,
the sisters will celebrate on July 7 with a Thanksgiving service followed by possibilities for encounter.
